ਤੇ ਅਨਾਉ ਨਿਊਜ਼ੀਲੈਂਡ ਦੇ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਟਾਪੂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਕਸਬਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਫਿਓਰਡਲੈਂਡ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਪਾਰਕ ਅਤੇ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਮਿਲਫੋਰਡ ਸਾਊਂਡ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇ ਅਨਾਉ ਨੇੜੇ ਭੂਚਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸੁਨਾਮੀ ਦਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਟਲਿਆ, ਮੇਅਰ ਨੇ ਜਾਇਦਾਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਨਿਊਜ਼ੀਲੈਂਡ ਦੀ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਐਮਰਜੈਂਸੀ ਮੈਨੇਜਮੈਂਟ ਏਜੰਸੀ (NEMA) ਨੇ ਤੇ ਅਨਾਉ ਨੇੜੇ ਆਏ ਭੂਚਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੁਨਾਮੀ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਨੋਟਿਸ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਲੀ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ NEMA ਨੇ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਟਾਪੂ ਦੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਤੱਟ ‘ਤੇ ਮਿਲਫੋਰਡ ਸਾਊਂਡ ਤੋਂ ਪਿਊਸੇਗੁਰ ਪੁਆਇੰਟ ਤੱਕ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਜਾਣ, ਸੁਨਾਮੀ ਖਾਲੀਕਰਨ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਜਾਂ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਸੰਭਵ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ ਅੰਦਰੂਨੀ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
ਏਜੰਸੀ ਨੇ ਹੁਣ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭੂਚਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਰਥ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ਼ ਨਿਊਜ਼ੀਲੈਂਡ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸੁਨਾਮੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਦਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ ਇਸ ਖੇਤਰ ਲਈ ਸੁਨਾਮੀ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਖਤਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੂਚਾਲ ਦੀ ਤੀਬਰਤਾ 6.3 ਮਾਪੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਧ ਕੇ 5.9 ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

The tsunami threat following the earthquake near Te Anau has now passed, although the mayor has confirmed that some properties have been damaged.
New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has cancelled the tsunami advisory and evacuation order issued after the earthquake near Te Anau.
Earlier, NEMA had urged residents along the South Island’s West Coast, from Milford Sound to Puysegur Point, to move immediately to higher ground, leave tsunami evacuation zones, or travel as far inland as possible as a precaution.
The agency has now confirmed that Earth Sciences New Zealand detected no tsunami signals during the two hours following the earthquake, indicating there is no ongoing tsunami activity and the threat has passed.
The earthquake was initially recorded at magnitude 6.3 but was later revised down to 5.9.
